Expungement of Records
The existence of a criminal or traffic history on a person’s record can be detrimental in employment opportunities, loan applications, social settings etc. Therefore, it is usually wise to expunge criminal and traffic charges whenever possible. Unfortunately there are a lot of misconceptions about what an expungement is, who may or should file and when to do so.
An expungement is the removal of records from public inspection. In Maryland, records may be expunged from police departments, court files, State’s Attorney records and on line case searches on the Maryland Judiciary Case Search. Each process removes very specific files and must be done through the proper agency. Persons with records must apply for expungement of each arrest based on the date of arrest and according to the disposition.
